Porcellio dilatatus "Giant Canyon Isopod"
Porcellio dilatatus, commonly known as the Giant Canyon Isopod, is a robust species native to Western Europe. Recognized for their substantial size, reaching up to 20 mm in length, these isopods have a muted brown to bluish-gray coloration. Their hardy nature and adaptability make them excellent candidates for both bioactive setups and as feeder isopods.
Care Information
- Habitat: Prefers a well-ventilated enclosure with a substrate mix of coconut fiber, sphagnum moss, and leaf litter. A depth of at least 5-10 cm is recommended to accommodate their burrowing behavior.
- Temperature and Humidity: Thrives in temperatures between 59-79°F (15-26°C) with humidity levels around 50-70%. They are drought-tolerant but appreciate a moist area within the enclosure.
- Diet: Feeds on decaying organic matter, leaf litter, vegetables, and supplemental protein sources such as fish food. Providing a calcium source, like cuttlebone, supports healthy exoskeleton development.
