Albino millipedes thrive in a warm, humid, and stable environment that mimics a forest floor. Use a deep, nutrient-rich substrate mix (such as coconut fiber, rotted hardwood, leaf litter, and decomposed wood) at least 3–4 inches deep so they can burrow. Keep the enclosure lightly but consistently moist, never waterlogged, and provide plenty of hiding spots with cork bark, leaf litter, and decaying wood. Good ventilation is important to prevent mold while still retaining humidity.

Maintain temperatures around 72–78°F (22–26°C) with humidity in the 70–85% range. They are mainly detritivores, feeding on rotting leaves, decaying wood, and vegetables like cucumber, squash, and sweet potato, supplemented with a source of calcium (such as cuttlebone or powdered calcium) to support healthy exoskeleton development. Avoid handling them too often; when you do, be gentle and wash your hands before and after, as they can secrete mild defensive chemicals.

Key care points

  • Enclosure: Secure, escape-proof tank or tub with good ventilation.

  • Substrate depth: Minimum 3–4 inches of moist, organic substrate (coco fiber, rotted wood, leaf litter).

  • Moisture: Keep substrate damp but not soggy; mist lightly as needed.

  • Temperature: Aim for 72–78°F (22–26°C), avoid extremes or rapid fluctuations.

  • Humidity: Maintain roughly 70–85% relative humidity.

  • Hides and decor: Provide cork bark, leaf litter, and tunnels for hiding and exploring.

  • Diet: Rotting leaves, decaying wood, and vegetables like cucumber, squash, and sweet potato.

  • Calcium source: Offer cuttlebone, crushed eggshell (sterilized), or reptile-safe calcium powder.

  • Cleaning: Spot-clean mold or uneaten food; refresh substrate periodically but not too often.

  • Handling: Minimal, gentle handling only; allow them to crawl onto your hand rather than grabbing.

  • Safety: Wash hands before and after contact; avoid perfumes, lotions, or chemicals on skin when handling.
