Vietnamese Vampire Crabs

Vietnamese Vampire Crabs are a beautiful and unique addition to any invertebrate collection. These small crabs are known for their striking appearance and active personalities, making them an awesome choice for a planted paludarium setup.

Despite being called vampire crabs, they are not fully aquatic and should not be kept in a traditional aquarium. They spend most of their time on land while still requiring access to fresh water.

CARE INFORMATION

Vietnamese Vampire Crabs do best in a humid paludarium with plenty of land area, a smaller freshwater section, and lots of places to hide and climb. Leaf litter, moss, cork bark, plants, and other natural décor help them feel secure and provide plenty of areas to explore.

A secure lid is highly recommended, as vampire crabs are excellent climbers and can be surprisingly good escape artists. They can be kept in groups when given enough space and hiding spots, although keeping more females than males is generally recommended.

Difficulty: Beginner–Intermediate
Handling: Not Recommended
Humidity: High
Diet: Omnivorous — prepared foods, insects, vegetables, and occasional protein
Enclosure: Paludarium with mostly land and a smaller freshwater area
Temperament: Active, social, and territorial at times

Vampire crabs are best enjoyed as a display species rather than a handling pet. Their small size and climbing ability make a naturalistic, heavily planted enclosure ideal for watching them explore
